Prayers

What would you pray to God?
Maybe, people would say ...
"I pray that...

  • I will pass all exams
  • I will get the job
  • I will become smarter so I can have a better result
  • I will be taller and skinnier
  • I can be more handsome / prettyI will get everything I want

God listens to prayers, indeed He is a loving God.
But, what are motives of your prayers? Self-interested, self-centered, or selfish prayers are not the will of God. If He answers all your prayers according to your will, He becomes your servent rather than your God. Because they are 'orders', but not 'prayers'. You can never be the master of God.
However it is interesting to hear these people start and end their prayers with "Lord ..." If your prayer is all about yourself, and all you want to do is to give 'order' to God, why would you call Him "Lord"?

Dear Lord, I pray that you will guide us and let us understand what your will really is, but not focusing on our earthly desires.
奉我耶穌的名而求. 阿門.

Luck

There were a lot of talks about luck lately. Today, a friend of mine bought a team ticket in the ticket machine. As she got the change from the the machine, she was shocked. It is because she had got more change than she was supposed to get. She did not seem to be happy for getting this extra money, but she started to worry about this extra money left over by the prior passenger would bring her bad luck. On the other day, as my brother was born in the year of Pig (Chinese year), mum gave him red underpants on the first day of the year of Pig, and said this would bring him luck for the year.We bless other people with "good luck" in many occasions. Say, before exam, most of my friends would say "good luck" to others.
So the word "luck" is really commonly used in everyday life. However, as I become a Christian, I hate to say "good luck" to people. I mean, there are heaps of other better blessings than saying good-luck, why should I use this "second-class" word as a blessing? Especially for Christians, we have our most high God who created everything. All strength and wisdom are from God, the Only God in the universe. He provides encouragements and comforts for us in our difficult time. He gives us love and peace no matter where we are.
Now where does luck fit into this picture? Can luck do anything greater than what God has done to us? Luck cannot heal the sick, cannot give slight to the blind, cannot make the lame to walk, cannot raise the death nor give us eternal life! Only God can do all these. Only our Lord Jesus Christ is able to do all these miracles. Look at the life changing real examples in the world. Countless number of people changed their lives because they accepted Jesus as their Lord and personal Saviour. Can luck do these? Can anything in the world made by man do these?
If there was so-called "luck" in this world, who gives luck to you? It is God, who creates everything. So, why do you pursuit for luck?

This is not the end of the story. The funny thing about the red pants was that lots of red colour came out from the little underpants as we washed it, and it made ALL white clothes became pink. The first "unlucky" thing of the year of Pig was caused by a garment that initially perceived as bring-you-good-luck-thing.. Isn't that ridiculous?
