Monday, May 01, 2006Now if you don’t have this doctrine of God’s sovereignty, all you can do, as you observe the world, is describe the effects. You’ll be like an art critic, who walks into an art exhibition, and you have to try and make-up why the artist did what he did. You’ve never actually found out from the artist why they did what they did. But a Christian, who latches onto the sovereignty of God, knows that there is a God, a purposeful God, who has revealed His purposes for us.
Let me give you another little illustration. Imagine two men are watching a house burned down. One man is feeling completely helpless as he watches. He is depressed. He is angry at the waste, and he is devastated for the owner. A second man, watching the same house burn down has been told that that house was infected and rotted, to the point where the only thing that could be done for the house was for it to be burned and for it to be replaced. And he has purchased the block, arranged the burning, for the purpose of rebuilding.
Now the first man is like the non-Christian. He watches, but he does not know what the owner wants, or is doing. The other man who watches is like the Christian. He has got the key piece of information on what the owner plans to do. And therefore, if you understand the sovereignty of God, you’ve got the crucial piece of information behind the activities of the world. And if you don’t have the doctrine of the sovereignty of God, then all you can do is to go home and write up what the burning house looked like, and you can write it as brilliantly and as passionately as you like, but you are actually ignorant on the whole process, on what the reasons are.
以圖畫來比喻生命的話,
沒有一個畫家能夠完全控制自己的圖畫 ..
因為生命的際遇往往不在我們的掌握之中
所以其實生命應該就好似看畫展一樣, 而我們就是看畫的人.
第一種人看了畫後並不明白畫家的含意, 卻不加思考就走開了
第二種人看了同一幅畫, 於是開始思考畫家的主旨是什麼,
但是他永遠都不會知道真正的答案, 只可以站在畫前不斷地想 ...
還有第三種人, 他們入場後就拿起場刊,
然後細心思考畫家的含意, 明白畫家畫畫背後的原因
生命又好似兩個人同時看著一場大火
普遍人看見房子被燒毀都會感到不安,
為被毀壞的房屋和失去的財產感到可惜
又會想舊有的房子沒有了,
所有回憶, 所有曾經認為是珍貴的都會隨大火而失去..
另一些人, 可能是屋主, 可能是屋主的朋友,
他們看著同一間房子被毀並不會傷心,
因為他們知道這房子已經舊了, 燒毀後重建是理所當然的
他們一早已經為新房子作好準備, 把財物都打理好
他們會興奮地為新房子打點一切
作為基督徒, 我們就好似第三種看畫的人,
明白生命的意義, 明白神造我們的原因
再不用估畫家的動機, 不用再嘗試哪條才是正確的路
因為正確的路已經寫在"場刊", 就是聖經上了
我們又好像屋主的朋友, 雖然經歷生老病死,
但我們都知道我們將來要去哪裡, 要為我們的新居準備什麼
不似普遍的人, 以為人死便如燈毀,
以為一切今生所經歷的都會隨生命流逝 ...
事實上, 人今生所做的絕對會影響我們的永生
因為神說我們今生所作的都會在未日被顯現出來,
這位畫家將為我們的"評價"作出審判
這位屋主會以我們為新居所準備的而作出賞賜
但準備充足的人不要害怕, 也不要驚惶, 因為你無論往哪裡去, 耶和華你的 神必與你同在．
