Biblical Jesus vs. True Jesus....?

Recently, a friend of mine had a discussion with me about who Jesus really is and whether or not the "biblical Jesus" is the "true Jesus".
It is true that believing in something wrong is absolutely nonsense. I appreciated people who eagerly seek for the truth that Jesus taught us. However how we interpret the Bible and how we want to live are not important at all. As a Christian, what's more important to us is how God wants us to live in this life. It is certain that there is only ONE way to God and it is also the only way to be saved ; not by how we interpret the Bible or how much we know about the Bible, but through the grace of God, Jesus died for us while we were still sinners, so we are saved by faith through Him.
So my question is... Is it worthwhile to question every single word in Bible, whether or not they are said by Jesus personally, as long as these words are telling readers the essence of Jesus' teaching? Given that ALL scriptures are God breathed and are written in the Bible, there are no doubt that the words written in the Bible are God’s words.
Why bother to compare the Bible with other sources if it does no good in understanding how to walk in God's way. I'm not saying understanding other sources is wrong, because seek and we shall found. But before collecting ALL knowledge and information on earth to understand God, we need to beware that we do not got bogged down by the little details, and forget what the big picture is - we are saved by faith through Jesus. Isn’t that knowing how to walk in God's way more important? How much could the scholars help you in understanding God based on other historical sources?... Salvation is a matter of Faith, not of sight. How much you see from other sources wouldn’t give you a passport to heaven.

Do not believe whatever other people say.

Recently, i have heard a talk on "Consider Christ" by Phillip Jenson. In there it talks about the reason why we need to consider Christ. From all the study and Historic prove of who Jesus is came down to 3 possibily. Either he is a Saviour, God as he has told. Or Maniac or Liar. To make those outrages comment of "He is God and Saviour". He is either not telling the truth. But it's hard to believe that a teacher of telling truth that saved lives had told lies of who he is. The Second option we can see is he might be a mad man. But from his well disiple living style and his wisdom in repuking people's questions. There will be no reason why so many people have followed a maniac. Even the Teachers of the Law and Pharisees cannot accused him of being a mad man but only a liar without any prove that one single lie has come from his mouth. But even so, even what he had said was true, how does it affect 2000 years after the sociality we are living. Jesus said, "For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it." Matthew 16:25
Jesus is telling you that whatever you are holding on to will disappear one day.
Matthew 16:24
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

So what are you still holding onto rather than giving your life to Christ?
